COMMUNITY HEALTH

The goals set by BAIF in 1967 are almost similar to the Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations. Our programmes address eradication of poverty and hunger of the families living below the poverty line. Education and functional literacy, gender equity, empowerment of women and community health care with special emphasis on maternal and child health are superimposed in the livelihood activities. Environmental sustainability is ensured while implementing all the development programmes. We have been addressing the problems of diseases of local importance. We have now decided to reinforce our programme to deal with diseases such as TB and HIV/AIDS which are becoming prominent.

Community health is essential to keep the rural people fit for work. The important activities under this programme are promotion of hygiene, sanitation, immunisation, nutrition, maternal and child care and family welfare. Motivation and awareness play a very critical role in promoting these activities. Recycling of solid and liquid wastes for kitchen garden, chlorination of drinking water and training the local volunteers in first aid have been very effective in reducing sickness in rural areas.
