The-then president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, visited the multidisciplinary development programmes at Sarai Sultani and Lala Ki Bagh villages in Raniganj cluster of Pratapgarh district on May 2, 2007. He was extremely happy to see various interventions introduced by BAIF to make optimum use of degraded natural resources particularly sodic lands and poor quality livestock as well as initiation of various non-farm activities to generate gainful self-employment. This programme implemented with the support of the European Union during 1996-2004 has helped over 90% of the participating families to come out of poverty.
   
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the-then President of India visited BAIF's Integrated Rural Development Programme -"Jana Utthan" at Vaitagwadi hamlet in Nandgaon village of Igatpuri taluka in Nashik district, on October 15, 2005. On the request of the villagers, he renamed this village as Asha Kiran Wadi.
